¡Qué ridículo! Spanish Regular Verbs Activities

Three activities that help students practice the present tense of the Spanish regular verbs, -ar, -er, and -ir so they internalize the meaning of the verbs. They read ridiculous sentences in the “yo” form and change them to logical ones. These are not grammar drills; they are real tasks that force students to think about what the sentences mean and then write sentences that make sense. First interpretive practice, then production.

Description

Three Spanish Regular Verbs activities that help students practice the present tense of the Spanish regular verbs, ar, er, and ir, so they internalize the meaning of the verbs. They read ridiculous sentences in the “yo” form and change them to logical sentences. These are not grammar drills; they are real exercises that force students to think about what the sentences mean and then write sentences that make sense. Interpretive practice, then production.

These Spanish Regular Verbs Activities include the following resources:

  • Activity in which students change “la frase ridícula a una frase lógica” using los verbos regulares y la forma “yo”
  • Activity in which students complete the sentences using high-frequency words from a word bank (pero, en, a, de, para, con, siempre, también, contigo, a veces, sin, pero, también, tarde, nunca)
  • Bell Work in which students read incorrect sentences and write correct sentences that make sense. Students must have knowledge of the days of the week and the months of the year in order to understand the sentences and correct them.
  • Google Slides digital versions for use in Google Classroom, other Google and digital platforms, and distance learning

Students acquire language, rather than learn it. These activities are actually language, not drills, so students learn the Spanish regular verbs naturally, by interpreting meaningful sentences and writing their own logical ones. Students learn the regular -AR, -ER, and -IR verbs in Spanish.
