These assignments accomplish three things: They keep students exposed to Spanish during summer months or semester breaks, provide preparatory practice for each section of the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam (except the Conversación simulada), and provide training wheels in the form of vocabulary and sheltered language for the reading and audio sources. They will prepare students for the rigor of AP Spanish without overwhelming them. Every summer, my principal asks me to submit my summer homework for future AP Spanish students, and every summer I have to scramble. No more scrambling!

AP Spanish Summer Homework includes the following resources:

  • Modified Article, “La vida saludable” and internet link with vocabulary definitions and student instructions: Students read the article and choose the best response to the questions.
  • Audio and Vocabulary, Fuente Número 2: Students listen to the audio and choose the correct response to the questions.
  • Graphic organizer for Fuente 3, “¿Qué sabe Ud. sobre la comida chatarra?” with vocabulary and internet link
  • Ensayo: Detailed instructions with sentence starters and organizers to guide students as they write a persuasive essay based on the three sources
  • Answers to the multiple-choice activities
  • Google slides digital versions for distance learning
  • Two auto-graded Google Forms digital versions for use in Google Classroom, other Google and digital platforms, and distance learning
  • Preparation for the AP Spanish Course Project

~Students learn about the 3 Ps (products, practices, and perspectives)
~Students create three slides which include the name of a Spanish-speaking country, region, or community, a tradition or celebration, the source or sources of their information, and one or two images
~Students record a one-minute presentation in which they describe the “productos, prácticas y perspectivas” of their chosen cultural practice and do a short comparison of the practice with one in their own community.

  • Comparación cultural with Vocabulary for making comparisons and Venn Diagram: Students read the definitions of, “sobremesa,” then read the questions and write a comparison between eating habits in their country and those of a Spanish-speaking country.
