Description

This AP Spanish Language and Culture syllabus is based on the second and third editions of Vista Higher Learning’s AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam Preparation booklet and Temas. It has been updated to align with the College Board 2026 CED and exam changes. The editable Syllabus includes the novels, “La tierra del tiempo perdido” by José María Merino, Senderos Fronterizos by Francisco Jiménez, and Marianela by Benito Pérez Galdós, but you can add your own novels. It also includes the textbook, “Temas,” but you can insert your own textbook. It was updated on August 7th to align with the new curricular requirements. This syllabus has not yet been approved by the College Board, as I just created it. I have included the previous College Board-approved syllabus so you can see what it looks like.

Don’t want to buy new materials? You can continue to use the Vista Higher Learning Test-Preparation booklet and Temas textbook. Just replace the oral presentation and the simulated conversation with the AP Spanish Course Project and use this syllabus. Two theme titles are different, and there will only be five multiple-choice questions for interpretive communication, but the activities will be basically the same and will lead students to proficiency and success on the exam.

This AP Spanish Language and Culture Syllabus is based on the Test-Preparation booklet, “Vista Higher Learning”. Therefore, you must purchase and use those books.

Below are the College Board Curricular Requirements:

  • CR1: The teacher uses Spanish almost exclusively in class and encourages students to do likewise.
  • CR2: The course provides opportunities for students to engage in interdisciplinary course content and develop skills through six required themes: Families and Communities, Language and Culture, Art and Creativity, Science and Technology, Contemporary Life, and Global Contexts.
  • CR3: Instructional materials include a variety of authentic audio, visual, and audiovisual sources and authentic written texts.
  • CR4: The course provides opportunities for students to practice and develop the skills in Skill Category 1: Comprehend Written texts, audio, and visualizations of data, as outlined in the AP Course and Exam Description (CED). (Interpretive Mode)
  • CR5: The course provides opportunities for students to practice and develop the skills in Skill Category 2: Speak and write in interpersonal and presentational contexts, as outlined in the AP Course and Exam Description (CED). (Interpersonal and Presentational Modes)
  • CR6: The course provides opportunities for students to practice and develop the skills in Skill Category 3: Demonstrate cultural understanding, as outlined in the AP Course and Exam Description (CED). (Interpersonal and Presentational Modes)
  • CR7: The course prepares students to use Spanish in real-life situations.
  • CR8: The course provides students with opportunities to develop keyboarding skills to type in Spanish.
  • CR9: The course provides instructional time and resources to help students develop analytical, research, presentational, and interpersonal skills to complete the course project.
