AP Spanish Lesson Plans for an Entire Year are based primarily on the second edition of Vista Higher Learning AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam Preparation booklet (the orange booklet) and partially on Temas. These lesson plans are compatible with both books and more efficiently used in conjunction with the Temas textbook. However, they can be used independently of Temas (See list of required materials below.)

The yearlong Spanish 3, 4, and AP Curriculum and lesson plans are aligned with National Standards (World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages – The 5 Cs: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities), the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines and Can-Do Statements, and the California World Language Content Standards.

ABOUT ME:

I taught Spanish for 30 years.

During the five years I taught AP Spanish, all of my students passed except one, most with 4s and 5s. One year, 75% of my AP Spanish students had gone directly from Spanish Three to AP Spanish, skipping Spanish Four. They all passed the AP Spanish Language and Culture Test.

My principal nominated me for Teacher of the Year.

I am one of the top High School TPT Sellers.

For my staff, I facilitated and presented a workshop on EDI (Explicit Direct Instruction) Lesson Planning.

I worked as a Consulting Teacher for two years mentoring participating teachers on quality lesson planning, instructional strategies, engaging activities, TPR Storytelling, equity, strategies for visual learners, how to teach grammar in the target language, and classroom management.

Spanish Three covers many grammar concepts and verb tenses. However, the concepts and vocabulary are recycled with frequent TPR Stories, narrations and comprehensible input incorporating the verb tenses so that students not only communicate accurately but with a varied and appropriate vocabulary. The emphasis of instruction is always on communication and employs communicative activities. 90%-100% Spanish is recommended by ACTFL and National Standards.

I recommend having students put all their handouts and interactive notebook activities in an interactive notebook although this is not required. For instructions on how to use an interactive notebook in a world language classroom, please visit my blog: blog

ATTENTION: The test-prep booklet is organized by sections, not by themes. The daily lesson plans are organized by theme, and therefore, do not follow the activities in the order presented in the booklet. Reorganization allows students to discuss related topics and see relevant vocabulary repeated in context, stay in the same theme and practice all sections of the test during each theme. Jumping pages is a negative result of the way the activities in the booklet were organized but should present no problems to the students. Just tell them what pages to open.

There is so much correcting in AP Spanish. These lessons and curriculum allow you to teach, correct, and go home.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

This full year curriculum meets all the Learning Objectives set forth by the College Board for AP Spanish Language and Culture and is based upon the three modes of communication: “Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational” and the six themes: “La belleza y la estética, La vida contemporánea, Las familias y las comunidades, Los desafíos mundiales, Las identidades personales y públicas y La ciencia y la tecnología”. All lesson plans are based on the EDI (Explicit Direct Instruction) model.

The lesson plans are based on a 90-minute instructional day for the block schedule but can be easily modified for a regular schedule and include extra lessons and activities.

My AP Spanish class traditionally consists of mostly non-native students with a small number of heritage and native speakers. Therefore, the goal of this curriculum is to enable students to communicate with maximum proficiency in the language, i.e., to comprehend authentic spoken and written Spanish, to speak and write Spanish using advanced language and idiomatic expressions, and to pass the AP Spanish Test with high marks.
